Punjab has officially phased out traditional security stamp papers, ushering in a fully digital stamping system under the Board of Revenue — a move set to transform how citizens handle legal documentation.
Gone are the days of long queues at banks and government stores. The Punjab government has launched a comprehensive online E-Stamp system, allowing residents to pay stamp duty and obtain official stamps entirely from the comfort of their homes.
How It Works
Through the official government portal or a dedicated mobile application, citizens can now complete the entire stamping process digitally. Once payment is made, a one-time OTP verification is all it takes — the e-stamp is issued instantly and can be downloaded and printed on ordinary white paper.
A Blow to Fraud
One of the most significant advantages of the new system is its potential to eradicate counterfeit and illegal stamp papers, which have long been a concern in property and legal transactions. The digital trail and verification process make forgery virtually impossible.
What the Authorities Are Saying
The Punjab Land Records Authority says the e-stamping initiative will bring greater transparency, convenience, and speed to service delivery. Stamps of all denominations will be available through the portal, with officials emphasizing that the reform strengthens both public accessibility and systemic security.
The Old Way vs. The New
Previously, obtaining a stamp paper meant physically visiting a bank or government store, selecting the required denomination, and paying in cash or by check — before finally walking away with a physical security paper. That entire process can now be completed in minutes, online, at any hour.
