The federal government has imposed an indefinite suspension of 3G and 4G mobile internet services across Islamabad and Rawalpindi in response to security concerns surrounding an upcoming protest march organized by a religious group.
Government Directive
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has authorized the suspension, directing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to implement the measure effective tonight. The timeline for restoration remains uncertain and will depend on evolving security assessments.
The Ministry of Interior’s official communication instructs PTA to work closely with the Chief Commissioners and Inspectors General of both cities to execute the suspension seamlessly.
Security Preparations Underway
In preparation for the anticipated march toward the capital, authorities have already positioned shipping containers at strategic locations throughout both cities. Major highways are expected to face closures as part of broader efforts to regulate public movement and maintain civic order.
Law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert, with PTA directed to maintain continuous coordination to ensure effective security management and communication protocols during the demonstration.
Traffic and Movement Restrictions
Residents of the twin cities should expect significant traffic disruptions as authorities implement diversion plans. The heightened security measures aim to prevent potential disturbances and curb any misuse of digital communication platforms during the protest period.
Officials emphasize that the mobile internet suspension is a precautionary step designed to safeguard public safety and prevent the spread of inflammatory content during this sensitive period.
